Stop blocks, dampers and shock absorbers each play a different role and function in mechanical engineering and equipment, but there is also a certain connection between them:
Stop blocks: are mechanical devices used to limit or prevent mechanical equipment or components from exceeding a predetermined position or travel, and are to ensure that mechanical equipment operates within a specific range, preventing it from moving excessively or exceeding safety limits.
Dampers: are devices that provide resistance to motion and dissipate motion energy. It absorbs and dissipates the energy generated by the structure or equipment under the action of earthquake, wind load, vibration and other external forces by generating internal damping force to achieve the effect of shock absorption or vibration damping.
Shock absorbers: are devices used to reduce or eliminate unwanted vibration and shock in mechanical systems, using the elasticity and energy-absorbing properties of the material to reduce the impact of vibration and shock on the equipment and improve the stability and safety of the equipment.
What all three have in common is that they all involve reducing or controlling motion, vibration or shock in mechanical equipment. In some cases, they can complement each other and work together to improve the performance of the equipment.
The points of difference between the three are:
Stop blocks: are primarily concerned with limiting the travel or position of mechanical equipment to prevent it from exceeding a predetermined range.
Dampers: dissipate energy by generating a damping force and are mainly used to reduce the effects of vibration and shock.
Shock absorbers: utilise the properties of materials to reduce vibration and shock, often used to improve the stability and safety of equipment.
Application of all three: In some complex machinery and equipment, it may be necessary to use stops, dampers and shock absorbers simultaneously to achieve optimum vibration reduction and limiting effects. For example, in the design of cranes, stops can be used to limit the travel of the lifting arm, while dampers and shock absorbers are used to reduce the impact of vibration and shock on the crane.
Although stop blocks, dampers and shock absorbers play different roles in mechanical equipment, there are certain links and co-ordinated applications between them. According to the specific application scenarios and needs, choose the right device to improve the performance and safety of the equipment.
